Bags, Belts and Small Leather Goods: Caring for Accessories

A bag does not wear out the way a shoe does. It fails at the corners, along the handles, at the base where it meets every table it has been set down on, and inside the lining where nobody looks until something leaks.

Accessories need their own approach — and often their own patience.

Where accessories actually fail

  • Corners and edges — the first place coating wears through on a structured bag.

  • Handles — darkened by skin oils, then stiffened by them. Cleaning alone is not enough; the leather has to be fed afterwards.

  • Linings — pen marks, cosmetics and crumbs that never get removed until they set.

  • Hardware — tarnish and pitting, which need a different treatment from everything around them.

  • Structure — a bag stored empty and folded loses its shape, and shape is difficult to restore.

What we do

We clean and restore designer bags, caps, belts and small leather goods — including pieces from houses such as Gucci, Dior, Hermès and Louis Vuitton. Hardware is masked and treated separately, linings are addressed on their own terms, and leather is reconditioned rather than simply wiped down. Most treatments take four to five working days.

What you can do between treatments

  1. Store bags upright and lightly filled, in a dust bag, away from direct sunlight.

  2. Empty the lining regularly. Most interior staining is avoidable.

  3. Wipe handles with a dry cloth after use, before oils have a chance to settle.

  4. Never use a household cleaner on coated leather. Test any product on a hidden area first.

For textile accessories and appropriate leathers, a protective treatment such as Jalloh Invisible Shield helps repel water and everyday stains. Always test on a small hidden area before treating a whole piece.

Send photographs through our request form and we will tell you what your piece needs.
